Get To Know You Questions

Starting a conversation in English can feel difficult, especially in your first lesson or when meeting someone new.

These get to know you questions are designed to help you start natural conversations, build confidence, and practise speaking in a relaxed and structured way.

They are especially useful for:

  • first English lessons

  • speaking practice with a teacher or partner

  • icebreaker activities

  • building confidence in conversation

How to Use These Questions

To improve your speaking, focus on communication rather than perfect grammar.

Try to:

  • answer in full sentences

  • give extra details

  • ask follow-up questions

  • reuse vocabulary you already know

You can also write your answers first, then practise saying them aloud, but try not to get into the habit of doing this.

Natural communication is key.
